Jury Sf "Gruppe von Fachleuten, Sachverständigen oder Geschworenen" erw. fach. (19. Jh.) Entlehnung. Entlehnt aus ne. jury, dieses aus afrz. juré "Versammlung der Geschworenen", zu afrz. jurer "schwören, durch Schwur das Recht verstärken", aus l. iūrāre, zu l. iūs (iūris) n. "Recht". Die Aussprache spiegelt wieder, daß die französische Bezeichnung (frz. jury) im Zusammenhang mit dem französischen Recht in Deutschland wirksam wurde.
